Team Nuthatch will be birding at Lady Bird Lake on April 12th! Donate to our team if you'd like to support us and help fundraise for Birdathon 2025. If you'd like to join our team, we are accepting members – see birding event details below:
Birdability Birdathon at Lady Bird Lake
Where: Camacho Center at 35 Robert T. Martinez Jr. St., Austin, TX 78702
When: Saturday, April 12th from 8 AM to 12 PM
What: Join Virginia Rose and Eric Clow in exploring a gorgeous stretch of Lady Bird Lake as we support Travis Audubon with our accessible twist on a Birdathon! We will meet in the parking lot for the Camacho Center, then meander a lovely trail that cuts through fields of wildflowers and riparian woodlands along the serene riverbank. Expect egrets, herons, and waterfowl as well as migrating warblers and flycatchers, maybe a Red-shouldered Hawk or two! After our leisurely stroll, we invite you to join us for a picnic at a nearby park!
This outing is designed for birders of all abilities and skill levels. All are welcome!
Access Info: We will wander a part paved, part crushed-granite trail for a mile or until the group gets tired. The trail is wide, smooth, and flat. There are a few benches along the trail, but they are low to the ground and require a few steps across a less-even, mulch-type surface. Van-accessible spaces are available in the Camacho Center parking lot. A bathroom is located behind the main building.
Parking Directions: Drive past the Camacho Center into the parking lot and continue all the way to the back by the lake.
What to Bring: As always, folks should bring a hat, water, sunscreen, binoculars, and/or whatever other birding tools you use. (We will provide loaner binoculars for those who need them.) If you can walk, you should wear comfortable shoes. And bring lunch if you plan to join us for our post-walk picnic!
This team is limited to 15 participants (plus additional attendants if you bring someone to help you participate). To join this team, go to https://tasbirdathon.rallybound.org/Account/Register, go through the registration process, and when prompted to create or join a team, click "join a team" and search for Team Birdability. Joining this team is free although we encourage donations!
In the case of inclement weather, we will notify team members by 7AM on the morning of the outing. Feel free to Eric Clow (birdcitynews@gmail.com) if you have any questions or additional access needs.
